Mothering on the Edge

May is coming!

May is a big month at our house. Planting stuff in the garden (I found a kid who will rototill my garden for $20! woot!), 2 birthdays (my youngest turning 3 and oldest turning 7) and Mother's Day. Since I flunked out on Thursday Thirteens, I'll make some lists here.

My garden plans:
  • Peas
  • carrots
  • cucumbers (new this year)
  • midget watermelons
  • tomatoes
  • and maybe peppers.
I'm trying to keep the garden simple this year, and doing it organic. I got the seeds and tomato plants from Seed Savers. Very cool people.

Things H would like for her birthday:
  • a subscription to Cricket or maybe Calliope magazines (Yes, it says they're for ages 9-14, and she is turning 7. I have no explanation for this. She likes to read them.)
  • pink and yellow rose wallies--we're painting her room pink for her birthday, and she has chosen this theme for redecorating. Curtains are also on her list, as is a ceiling mural.
  • a silk flower swag (no, I'm not kidding, she really wants one) pink and yellow roses, of couse.
Things E would like for his birthday:
  • a ball (I think a soccer-type outdoor ball)
  • sturdy books on boyish themes (we have an abundance of princess and pony books, but very few featuring cars and "diggers")
  • board puzzles and games (Leapfrog's Letter Factory game looks fun--we love their videos)
Of course, if you don't want to mess with shopping, we're starting investment funds for each of the kids this summer for college, and as a family we're saving for a Disneyland trip (probably next year). Family and friends are welcome to contribute--just fewer toys for us to clean up!
